Braided Updos Let You Stand Out

Braided updos are a really versatile look. They work for casual events as well as formal ones, such as weddings or proms. Such celebrities as Jessica Alba and Lauren Conrad, to name a few, have sported braided updos, making the style immensely popular.

Braid updos may seem intricate, but with these simple directions, you can do them yourself.

French braided updos are quite a popular style. To achieve an S-shaped braided chignon, begin by applying some volumizing product to your hair, then blow dry upside down. Start French braiding from the crown toward the hairline behind one ear then back toward the other side, and finally, near the neckline. Tuck in the ends underneath the part of the braid coming from the last ear, and fasten with bobby pins. Make it really secure by crossing two hairpins in one spot.

Another way to do simple yet cute braided updos is to start by parting your hair in the middle, and gathering it into two sections. Braid each section and keep from unraveling with a rubber band. Take one braid and pull it tightly across the top of your head. Secure with hair pins. Try to choose hairpins that are close to your hair color. Do the same for the other one. Smooth down any stray hairs or bumps. Spritz with hairspray to make it last longer. This will give you a great boho-chic look.

Braided updos are a standout for weddings or proms. To achieve a more formal look, start by separating your hair down the middle into two sections. Braid each section, and secure with an elastic band. Take each braid and wind around itself into a side bun. Add some sparkly hair accessories to add more zing.
